a look around my camper trailer

Sue's Radical Trailer

This little beauty always draws a crowd. I have owned a couple of Cub campers and a Tvan as well as a variety of tents over the years and have traveled to most corners of Australia.  These days my Radical Trailer suits me perfectly.  Much thought has gone into setting up this camper to house myself and my two small pooches.

I needed something small and lightweight to move around, with a comfortable bed made up and was easy to set up at camp sites. The fiberglass trailer is made in Kempsey with the canvas walls and self supporting awning included.

The spare tyre is located underneath and it is  colour matched to suit the vehicle. I fitted a 5 inch mattress, a wired power outlet, internal light and had a combination of walls made to Velcro around the awning.

The guys at Blacktown canvas were amazing with the design of these extra walls to make a waterproof work area if needed. I also have a set of shade cloth walls for summer nights. In the camper I carry tables, chairs, extra walls, 2 poles, drying rack, steps and rope bag on top of the bed.

In the vehicle I carry two crates with gas equipment, utensils and food. These stack up beside the table to form a work bench.  I also take a Cobb cooker, clothing, 20 litres of water, an Engel fridge and portable battery pack in the car. The fridge runs off the vehicle when traveling and plugs into the battery pack at night which eliminates the need for powered sites every night.

When possible I use 240 power to run my laptop and other electric equipment. The dogs travel in a portable kennel which is lifted out when I set up camp but they do prefer to snuggle up in the doona at night.

The trailer is towed by a Rav 4 and is hardly noticeable behind the vehicle. It does not impede rear vision at all.

At home the trailer can be stored upright  at the end of my garage to save space. However this is a tad heavy for me to lift on my own.

There are many great camping sites within driving distance of Sydney. I keep my camper packed so it takes about 5 minutes to hook up and head off for a weekend. The perfect way to end a busy week at school -  with some fine wine, a good book, Lucy and Bill somewhere in the great outdoors.
