2006 coolah tops jazz festival

by cam

The Coolah Tops Jazz Festival was held in the Coolah Tops National Park on the weekend of the 11th March 2006. The setting was ideal and the jazz was fantastic.

Held at the Pinnacles Lookout overlooking a large part of the Coolah Valley and environs of the national park, the atmosphere was fantastic and even if you weren't into jazz it really complemented the camping/camper trailer side of the weekend.

The program for the festival for the Saturday evening started at about 12.00 midday and went through until approx 11.00 pm that evening. We along with many others camped at various parts of the national park and there were quite a few camper trailers I noticed throughout the various campsites. We stayed at the Pines Camping Area and whilst the only facility was a long drop loo, it was a fantastic camp area, flat and heaps of firewood available to collect at random, just no chainsaws. They actually tell you this on the brochure.

We went over Friday evening and were soon joined by our other friends and their campers later that evening. On the Sunday we went and checked out the large snow gums present in the park and also some old sawmill ruins from logging many years ago,  along with a tour on the forest road approx 30 kms through the park to Breeza Lookout, another fantastic view.

The weather was excellent, both for bushwalks and cool enough to enjoy a campfire in the evening.

All in all a fantastic weekend and I would recommend it to those contemplating a visit to this park and to the Jazz weekend.

See you there next year perhaps.
