Goomburra Valley Campground SE Qld members meet Held on the weekend of Saturday 1st & Sunday 2nd of October 2005
Meets in Queensland may not match the size of those further south but Goomburra more than made up for that with the friendliness and cooperation of the group and the quality of the facilities. As a ‘bush camp’ complete with clean flush toilets, hot showers, friendly management it’s hard to beat. The get together was the biggest SEQ meet to date with 16 camper trailers & tents, 29 adults, 11 children & 6 dogs. The weather was kind to us. Heavy rain and strong wind early in the week provided interest for early arrivals but the worst after that was a few showers PM Friday. Bitterly cold a couple of nights though – got close to 6 degrees. Shouldn’t happen in Queensland in October! When we arrived on the Thursday afternoon, Gus & family (arrived Tuesday) and Rex & Ann (Wednesday) were well settled in. Friday saw the arrival of most of our crew, led in by our hosts John & Penny. We were very pleased to welcome interstate members Richard, Sharon & family, Kevin & Karen and Barry & Margaret. Another long distance member was Stuart from Rockhampton. The Skinners are of course interstate members but we claim them as our own. ‘Show & tell’ gets bigger every time. While many other must have gadgets and ideas attracted lots of interest this was definitely the ‘LED light show’. Rex’s electric soap dispenser gets a special mention though. Our hosts John & Penny led a scenic drive up the mountain to Mt Castle lookout and some interesting bushwalking through rainforest to get to the lookout on Saturday afternoon. It was great catching up with the now regular get together friends as well as meeting more new faces from the group. As a group we thank John & Penny for their efforts in making this, yet again, an enjoyable and memorable event. Alan & Kathy
