Stolen Camper Trailer Facebook Group

Post by robcaz » Mon May 27, 2019 2:35 pm

Hi all,

There has been a stolen camper trailers page on the campertrailers.org website since 2008. Not many camper trailers are recovered after being stolen.

In a hope that more camper trailers are found, I have started a Stolen Camper Trailer Australia Facebook Group where anyone is free to add the details of their stolen camper trailer, they do not have to be a member of the Australian CamperTrailers Facebook Group https://www.facebook.com/groups/367771160519878/

Please feel free to join this group & pass the link onto friends & other facebook groups.

The link can be found at the top of the stolen page https://www.campertrailers.org/stolen.htm

as well as the top lefthand column of the websites front page https://www.campertrailers.org

On the tech tips page you will find a few ideas of how to secure your camper trailer making it harder for the casual thief http://www.campertrailers.org/securing_your_camper.htm

I had an attempted theft on my camper, on Sunday just gone, at approx. 3am. They cut the the main gate's security lock, came quietly up past our house, which happens to be right where our bedroom is, up to the shed and carport. The camper is in the carport. They walked up, with the intention of just pulling it out of the carport, and as the driveway is reasonable steep, they just intended to move it by hand. The thing is as soon as they got to the carport, the security shed light came on, and as it shines into our main bedroom window at the back, it alerted our dog, whom sleeps on the bed with us. He reacted real quick and woke us up. I then heard people running back down the driveway. I went into the kitchen and turned on all the outside lights, got to the front door, and saw a 4wd ute driving away. My camper is as I have previously stated is an old 1980 mod, hardfloor Campomatic, it is in very good nick, but only valued at $3k. They are getting real desperate these thieves, this is the second attempt, and includes them trying to steal the neighbours camper across the road at the same time as mine, not long after I got my camper in Oct. 2021 Have 2 other security flood lights, to put up, that I have been slack in not putting them up, like I should have , as well as a shark alarm, which I will now install, between now and the weekend. I don't know what is driving them to try and steal my camper at least, as it is so old, I understand on the neighbours one, as it is $30k's worth, but mine, I don't get it. I just have to be on the ball, now . Luckily I have a great watch dog. NB: I do have a hitch lock on the camper, but now will add a chain to the trailer welded into the ground. .

There is a huge market for camper trailers out there. One gang that was caught were taking orders. To register it is as easy as applying for a new vin number saying the camper trailer is DIY. There have been a few businesses buying right offs that are not allowed to be on the road again & doing similar.

On the tech tips page I put together a page with didn't ideas for securing your camper trailer http://www.campertrailers.org/securing_your_camper.htm

I think a wheel clamp & shortening your saftey chains by wrapping them around the hitch & locking would really slow them down. There are plenty of GPS trackers out there too.

An alarm that turns on if the camper is moved would be a drop the camper & run, a reverse fridge switch http://www.campertrailers.org/fridge_switch.htm

How easy is it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z9tbSzWkY1s&t=4s
