Gas struts for hard floor camper

Post by Coupey » Sun Jul 25, 2021 10:49 am

Hello,
My partner and I recently bought a camptime escaper 2014 hard floor camper trailer.
We are hopping to make it up to Walcha if we are out of lockdown.
In preparation I just had it serviced and when opening it up I noticed the external gas struts aren’t assisting so I think they have had it. We live on the central coast(Terrigal) and looking for some advise on how to get them off and get replacements. I am pretty handy but haven’t replaced these before. The gas struts have eyelets at each end and fitted onto shafts with a washer and nylock nut.
Thanks in advance.

Hi Coupe,

Open the camper trailer up so the gas struts are fully extended before removing them.

You will find the struts marked with the N or newton force & part number. Evesco have quality replacement gas struts https://www.ovesco.com.au/ Check the discount to members section on how to get a discount.

Note the position of the gas strut before removing them. The shaft will be at the lowest point that the strut spends most of its time. For your camper trailer that means in a closed position.

Looking forward to seeing you at Walcha. :D
happy camping
