SafeLok LCC27 fittings

Post by robcaz » Mon Mar 13, 2023 6:03 pm

Hi all,

A new SafeLok LCC27 fitting is being introduced on all 9kg gas bottles to replace the existing POL gas fitting.

The new LCC27 appliance connection has a larger & easy to use right threaded hand wheel which is more intuitive to connect and easier to tighten.
It also features thermal protection in case of a fire & will stop the gas flow. Plus a “back check valve” so if the hand wheel is not tightened fully will not allow gas to flow.

Hoses with the new style LCC27 fitting can only be used with a matching cylinder. They are not compatible with POL valve cylinders.

Existing older style gas hoses with the POL fitting are compatible with the new LCC27 valve cylinders.

As a former Firey, not having a gas bottle that can vent, will make the gas bottle a bomb, and I can tell you, they wont be trying to keep cold water on them at close range. Currently they have a safety vent that releases in high temps, and allows the bottle to burn off safely whilst having high pressure water put on them. It is much safer for the firefighter the way it is today. So if they have deleted this safety valve, no firey will attempt to make safe the new gas bottles in the future.

There is nothing to say the bottle will not vent in the link https://outdoorsandbeyond.com.au/blogs/ ... t-is-lcc27

Under the heading why the change it says to improve and maximise safety outcomes. The valve incorporates a thermal fuse that will melt when exposed to heat. This allows the internal check valve to close and shut off gas flow in the event the connection is exposed to a fire.

Also the valve incorporates a check valve that will only enable gas to flow when a gas tight connection is made so gas cannot flow from the cylinder even if the hose has been disconnected and the valve handle has been left in the open position.
