Solar Panel Problem

Post by dlncooke » Sun Aug 24, 2014 4:05 pm

Hi, we have a 200 watt solar panel on our camper trailer setup and running with out issues.
I checked it today (sunday) and the battery was @ 100% & regulator had an error msg saying
no panel plugged in. !!! when infact is was plugged in.

I plugged another panel in and error msg went away and all was good.

My question is do solar panels Shi@ themselves if left plugged in and charging with battery
@ 100% or should this not matter.

It was left out in the rain for the last week all plugged in. would this matter.

Any help appreciated.

Cheers
Dave

Most common problem with panels is one , or more , of the diodes in the junction box going short circuit, or sometimes open circuit...

can be tested with a multimeter quite easily..

Do you know how , or have a knowledgeable friend ??

Can explain how , if you have a multimeter !!

HI Peterr, I do have a multimeter, not real sure how to test the diodes but I'm a quick learner.

Hi Dave,

Also if you are using Anderson connectors, make sure the terminals inside the Anderson have not pushed back so they do not make contact when connected.
