Regulation of Solar power

Post by GEOFF.PAULINE » Sat Nov 01, 2014 4:03 pm

Hi.
Picking up our first every Solar Panel in a couple of weeks ,Projecta 120 w, 6 panel roll up.

To get the best out of them I believe I should bypass the built in Regulator on the panel , and use the CTEK D250S which has a Solar Connection and is mounted in the CT right next to the battery to save losses in the cables from the Panels.

Confirmations or Rejections appreciated.

That all sounds correct.

Hi Geoff,

The Ctek 250S Dual requires direct input from the solar panel & has a positive solar input terminal on it. There is a common negative terminal on the Ctek for the solar & alternator negative connection.

One of Jamie's diagrams explains it simply http://www.jtsonline.com.au/media/wysiw ... d250s3.JPG

Looks like you will need to connect to the wires that come from the back of each solar panel before they go the panels regulator.

You will need to open the regulator to gain access to the wires. Might I suggest splicing both conduits together so both wires from the panels go into the regulator housing via the one inlet. Then use the other outlet for the unregulated output. This way it will still look neat & tidy.

We can't make Macquarie Woods, but if you take a photo of the regulators inside & send it to me, I will draw a diagram up for you.

I did similar for my Redarc BCDC1225 install. The red anderson denotes unregulated output while the grey denotes regulated output. http://www.campertrailers.org/redarcbcdcinstall17.JPG
