Lightning Ridge & travelling to & from Sydney

Post by spoton5 » Mon Apr 07, 2014 10:10 am

Has anyone travelled up to Lightning Ridge ?
We plan to travel there over the Easter break
Plan on going up throught Blue Mountains, Bathurst, Orange & camping first night at Ponto falls Reserve near Wellington
Moree is it worth going to ?
or are we better going down through Burren Junction to Narrabri
Was told to miss warrabungles due to the fire damage last year

Looking at things to see & do in the following locations & suitable free camping sites
Lightning Ridge
Narrabri ( staying 2 Nights )
Tamworth
Boggabri
Werris Creek
Armidale ( plan on camping 2 nights at Dangar Falls near Armidale )

Any help would be appreciated
Thanks in advance

We stayed 3 nights at Lightning Ridge a couple of years ago. There is plenty to see there. You can check our blog if you like. http://wilkinsonwanderings.blogspot.com ... ridge.html

We stayed at the caravan park as we didn't like the look of the free camp. There is also a free camp at the Burren Bore.

I don't know how many days you have, but there is plenty to see in and around most of the north western towns - my favourite part of NSW.

If you are staying in Narrabri do a day trip up to Mount Kaputar and I think there is a big AUSCOTT building there now too with info on the cotton industry.

I haven't spent any real time in Moree so can't comment.

In Armidale try to do a tour of Booloominbah, a beautiful heritage building at the University, an old homestead and the original uni building. Wollomombi Falls east of Armidale are quite spectacular.

Werris Creek used to be a major rail junction in the north west so should have lots of railway history available.

Tamworth has lots to see, but the Info centre should be able to give you details of drives around small surrounding villages.
