Camper Security

Post by Patto1 » Sun Apr 13, 2014 9:55 am

Hi all
With the start of the main tourist season now under way I was wondering what people do about security for their camper when set up in parks etc and they are away sightseeing
Other than not leaving anything of value in either the camper or annex what do people do for security of their equipment/possessions

Cheers

Hi Patto,

In all the years we have been camping, most of which has been bush camping, we have never had our gear interfered with while away from the camper. Having said that we do not leave anything in camp of value or things around in plain view for the taking. You would probably have a greater chance of having gear stolen in a caravan park type environment where there are more people around & right in town.

If we are out for a drive we leave camp with the chairs & table out under the awning with stuff on the table, awnings over the windows pegged open, the flyscreen on the door zipped, towels & tea towels on the ropes etc as if we are right there & could walk around from the back at any moment. If going for a short walk we have a stainless steel cable to lock the solar panel to the camper depending on were we are. Check the discount to members folder for info on cables.

We take any items of value like the the fridge, solar panel, cameras etc with us on a drive.

You will find a few ideas for securing your camper too on the tech tips page http://www.campertrailers.org/securing_your_camper.htm
happy camping

We've not had any drama with things getting pinched in the camps we frequent either, but when we're out, the fridge, solar panels and Weber Q are all left at the camp. I run some safety chains on the big ticket items, but chains only keep honest folk from straying. We've got a couple of cattle dogs that travel with us. I don't know if that seems to help us.
