Australian Direct/ KickAss Fridge/Freezer

Post by dexsal » Wed Nov 28, 2018 2:22 pm

Hi all, have any campers had any experience with "Kick Ass" Portable Fridge/Freezers as I am interested in the 75Litre Dual Zone model, mainly because the size of this one makes the best use of the fridge slide in our camper trailer. Any comments on dealing with "Australian Direct" as a company would also be welcome.

Thanks Dexter.

Hi Dexter,

A mate of mine bought an AGM battery from them two years ago & said the service was very good.

The average energy consumption figures on their website for the Kickass portable fridge freezer dual zone 75 litre is based on an ambient temperature of 32°C......
1.5 amps per hour with both compartments at 3°C = 36 amp hours over 24 hours. An 80 watt panel will take 6 hours to top up the battery.
2.5 amps hour with both compartments at -18°C = 60 amp hours over 24 hours. An 120 watt panel will take 6 hours to top up the battery.
1.7 to 2.2 amps hour with split use 3°C & -18°C = 40.8 to 52.8 amp hours. An 80 to 105 watt panel will take 6 hours to top up the battery.

By comparison our 40 litre Engel used 20 amp hours over 24 hours running as a fridge or one-third of the time in similar temperatures when camping http://www.campertrailers.org/fridge_draw.htm Of course a larger internal fridge area will require more power to keep it at the present temperature.

Kickass does not state the amp power draw of the motor, just the average over 24 hours.

Hope this helps.
happy camping

G'day Dexter,
We bought a set of solar panels and an in line amp/volt metre from Kickass. Really good service and the panels are great. The in line meter is perfect for working out how much power you are using or making. Good gear I think.
Cheers Dan.
