Paul & Leanne Slorach.
WHERE.
Lake Purrumbete Caravan Park, 540 Purrumbete Estate Road,
Camperdown, Victoria.
Lake Purrumbete is located 13km east of Camperdown in South Western
Victoria, approximately 195 kms from Melbourne on the Princes
Highway. The lake has a reputation as a world class fishery with
annually stocked rainbow trout, brown trout and chinook allowing
anglers to catch the fish of a lifetime. Set in a peaceful rural
setting, Lake Purrumbete is also a bird watcher's paradise with many
species making the lake and foreshore their home. As an added bonus
koalas are also commonly seen in the area.
WHEN. Queens Birthday Long Weekend from Friday 5th
June to Monday 8th June 2009.
GETTING THERE.
1. Lake Purrumbete is approx 195 kms from Melbourne 13kms
east of Camperdown on Princes Highway. You will see a sign that says
Lake Purrumbete, turn left just after sign onto Talindert Road. When
you get to a T-intersection turn left into County Boundary Road East
which then becomes Purrumbete Estate Road. Continue on this and you
will see the lake on your left, continue on until you see a blue
caravan park sign. The caravan park is just ahead on your left.
2. You can also come from Pomborneit. At Pomborneit turn left
onto Koallah - Pomberneit Rd, turn right into Purrumbete Estate Road
and left into the caravan park.
CAMPING.
We have reserved a large unpowered grassy site towards the back of
the caravan park under the Campertrailers.org name. Apart from 3
caravans already booked towards one end of this area, we should have
the remainder of this area to ourselves. Other powered sites are
available elsewhere within the caravan park.
MAKING ARRANGEMENTS.
Please ring the Lake Purrumbete Caravan Park on
55 945 377 to book a site letting them know you are with the
CamperTrailers Group. An unpowered area only has been booked.
Powered sites will need to be booked separately.
CAMPING FEES
Unpowered: $9.00/person/night. Children up to 14 yrs
$6.00/child/night.
Powered: $22.00/couple/site. Children up to 14 years
$6.00/child/night. These need to be booked individually and we have
not held any powered sites.
Cabins are also available but need to be booked individually
- $60-$70/night
WATER. Freely available. Drinking water
available from rain water tanks.
CAMPFIRES. Campfires are allowed in supplied drums
only, as per fire regulations
FIREWOOD. If you can bring some firewood along that
would be greatly appreciated otherwise wood is available from the
office at $9.00/20kg bags. If each campsite shares the cost of
buying a few bags we should all be able to stay nice and warm.
AMENITIES. There are excellent toilet
and shower facilities along with a laundry.
DOGS Sorry but no dogs allowed due to the wildlife.
FACILITIES One of the criteria we set
ourselves was to have some sort of shelter if the weather is really
inclement. The caravan park has 2 rotundas. The smaller one which is
closer to us has 2 BBQ's and a Coonarra wood heater. The other
larger one also has BBQ's and will have 2 Connarra wood heaters
installed by the Queens Birthday weekend.

An
ice-breaker e-mail will be sent to the address you have
registered your interest
in the poll two weeks before the meet. Please reply to
confirm your attendance.
The icebreaker has been known to end up in your spam
folder. |
ACTIVITIES.
Any suggestions very welcome but here are a few that we have thought
of:
Queens Birthday
Celebrations; Don't forget to fly your flag. Wondering about an
idea to have "high tea" on Sunday afternoon to celebrate the Queens
Birthday. For all those with Cobb cookers, Dreampots and Coleman
ovens maybe we could have a cook off and everyone join in for a
Queens birthday afternoon tea.
Fishing: As described
above the lake is excellent for fishing. Unfortunately at the moment
the lakes levels are down so bank fishing is not possible but if you
have a boat that you can bring along you might just catch the fish
of a lifetime. A new ramp has just been built for easy access to the
water. Some fishing supplies, bait and fishing licenses available at
the park.
Children's play area:
The caravan park has a suitable play area/swings/slide for children
CFA Talk: I am
curently working on having a CFA member come in and talk about bush
camping in relation to lighting fires and what to do in a bushfire
if caught by a fire.
Local Heritage/Drives:
Historical Camperdown is a few minutes away. Drive in and see the
old clock tower, Mt Leura where you have excellent views of the
surrounding countryside. Visit Camperdowns two lakes, Lake Gnotuk
and Lake Bullen Merri.

Antiques: Pombo Mart
at Pomborneit North famous for its huge shed of antiques, coffee
shop and coming soon the "Singing Cobbler". A local character who
has gone from cobbling, to opera singing and now back to doing what
he love best - singing while repairing shoes.
The Great Ocean Road:
Port Campbell and the Great Ocean Road is less than an hours drive
away from Camperdown.
Whale Watching: If
the whales are early this year it is only a 50 minute drive to
Warrnambool to watch the whales at Logans
Beach. I will have
more information on this closer to the time.
You do not need a camper trailer to attend. Members without a camper are more
than welcome to come along & get a first hand unbiased opinion of a particular
camper trailer from their owners. Come along & meet the faces behind the typing.
You are also very welcome to drop in for the day.
Please keep in mind that the group owners will not accept any responsibility
for members & non-members actions during the weekend get together.
If you decide to attend, it is solely at your own responsibility, including any
side trips or outings during the weekend meet.
