held on the Australia Day long weekend
of Saturday 24th to Monday 26th of January 2009
A perfect setting
on a warm long weekend. Well grassed with toilets & showers made for
a hassle free get together.
Fab & Deb set up Friday and loved having the camp all to
themselves (plus the kids).
Saturday was for relaxing under the shady trees. We enjoyed a
game of yahtzee and sampling some of Rick’s Coopers Home Brew. Will
bring my keg next trip to quench the thirst of the guys. Browsing
through Dave’s huge assortment of camping gadgets kept us
entertained.
Everyone decided on a bbq for Saturday night’s meal. A
cooling breeze arrived, so the campfire was lit. Our friendly
intruders settled in with us for the night with some friendly banter
and camping gadgets being shown. The origins of some nick-names were
discussed and "Dangles" brought a roar of laughter. (use one’s
imagination and involve the word Moon)
Sunday was enjoyed fishing and watching the multitude of
water activities on the Mighty Murray River. A stark contrast to our
peaceful campsite with dry lagoon only 15 km’s upstream . Our
visitors Burnie & Shirley loved the camping ground and joined us on
our day trip. We caught a couple of carp with a few monsters
breaking the lines around the snags. The Murray Princess Paddle
Steamer was an impressive sight as it wound it’s way down the River.
Sunday night was another relaxing night around a smaller fire
in the bbq enclosure. Rosie’s pumpkin damper with jam & cream had
everyone lining up for seconds & thirds. Cindy made Baked Apples
with sultanas and tinned apricots smothered with custard. The Kid’s
had a feast. Next time Deb will be making her baked banana with
chocolate & marshmallow, Yum.
Another warm day Monday made for an early pack-up and
everyone was ready by 11am.
We forgot the cricket set, so decided on an Australia Day
Tunnel Ball Championship.
The first race provided a dead heat, and the decider was won
by the "Little Intruder’s Team".
A couple more games with somersault and cartwheel races
ensured the kids were exhausted for the drive home.
Was a pleasure to host another campertrailer meet and we
looking forward to many more.
