GETTING THERE. Middle Creek Camping Area is in the
Mount Buangor State Park, approximately 15 km west of Beaufort, a small town
located in an agricultural-pastoral area 165 km NW of Melbourne on the Western
Highway. The campsite is 506 km SE of Adelaide, and 1015 km from Sydney. Look
for the large brown turnoff sign (Ferntree Gully Road) on the Western Highway 12
km west of Beaufort.
THE ROAD. From the Western Highway turnoff, there
is about 6 km of good dirt/gravel road to the campsite. Suitable for all
vehicles.
CAMPING FEES.

sunny and shaded sites overlooked by Mount Buangor. There are picnic tables and

interfere with site accessibility.

provided.
FIREWOOD. Fairly plentiful, and may be collected.
SHELTER. There is a large well-sheltered undercover
dining area with old wooden tables and chairs and a large stone fireplace.

water. There is one tap with untreated rainwater - a sign indicates this is
unsuitable for drinking. The rainwater tank could be empty over summer.

, 1 Gents with urinal. Totally separate disabled access toilet. It is
recommended that an antibacterial hand gel such as Aqium (usable without water)
be included in your camping supplies.
SHOWERS. None available.
RUBBISH. Bins are provided for our use.
PETS. No dogs or cats permitted.
POWER. There are no powered sites.
BOOKING. Not required.
MOBILE PHONES. Variable reception with all carriers
– perfect if you go back to the highway or climb Mt. Buangor.

THINGS TO SEE AND DO. The campsite information
boards contain a lot of suggestions. From the peak of Mount Buangor, the highest
in the area, you can experience spectacular views of the surrounding
countryside. There are numerous walking and 4WD tracks, many of which continue
into the adjoining Mt. Cole State Forest. More than 130 species of birds have
been recorded, so bird watching is a popular pastime. Please do not feed the
birds.
The Bukkertillible (Cave) Walk leads to a massive arch 100m wide and 15m
high (3km return). The Raglan Falls are a 11km return walk or can be partially
driven to.
BEAUFORT (pop c. 1500) – the
nearest town - has a rich gold-rush history, with some interesting old
buildings. A visit to the Tourist Information Centre is well worthwhile (open
daily). There are a number of wineries in the area - Michael Unwin wines has a
cellar door in town. Lake Goldsmith, home to Australia’s largest steam rally, is
14 km south.
No activities for this get together have been planned. It’s simply meant to be a
relaxing weekend enjoying the park. On the Saturday - Australia Day - a bit of
flag waving may occur.
Any other ideas would be welcome.
You do not need a camper trailer to attend.
Members without a camper are more than welcome to come along & get a first hand
unbiased opinion of a particular camper trailer from their owners. Come along &
meet the faces behind the typing.
You are also very welcome to drop in for
the day.

owners will not accept any responsibility for members & non-members actions
during the weekend get together.
