semi-flexible
solar panel removable legs
I came up with this idea for removable legs to
suit the semi-flexible solar panels which can be adjusted to get the best
angle to point directly at the sun during the day. The legs can
easily be detached & the solar panel placed flat in a safe location
for storage between camps ie on or under the camper trailer mattress
for example.
It just so happens that the screw-on version of a 'Stayput canvas to
canvas toggle
fastener' as they are called, is a perfect fit for the eyelet in
semi-flexible solar panels. They are available from
boating accessory outlets.
I drilled a hole to suit the thread of the toggle fastener into a
short length of 25x25x1.4mm aluminium angle & secured the nut. The
aluminium angle was attached to a length of 20mm diameter aluminum
tube with a small bolt & the nut locked with Loctite allowing enough
movement for the tube to swivel.
I also drilled a hole to suit a small tent peg at the other end on
the tube.
The semi-flex panel is very light & can be blown over by the wind.
Tent pegs can be placed through the eyeletes of the solar panel
corners & in the bottom of the legs.
