Flinders Ranges
Just seeking to determine the best time to visit the Flinders Ranges area? Looking to go May 2015 - is this the best time or is it later?

Re: Flinders Ranges
G'day Muddy,
We attended the SA group get together at Rawnsley Park in May of 2014 and the weather was getting cooler with warm sunny days mostly and cool/cold nights, perfect for a campfire. We were caught in Arkaroola when it rained for the first time in months/years ?? just after as there are only dirt roads into that area. Most of the gorges and national parks have dirt roads so you should factor potential rain into your plans. When we passed through the area in April this year it was reasonably warm but very wet and all the dirt roads were closed again for much longer.
Cheers
Dave

Re: Flinders Ranges
Hi Muddy,
We spent two weeks in the Flinders over May 2012. The days were pleasant with cool nights, although a couple of days only reached 10 degrees. Get yourself a copy of 'The Flinders - an adventurers guide' by Ron & Viv Moon packed with information on sights & tracks http://www.guidebooks.com.au/flinders.htm
You will find photos of our trip on our own website toward the bottom of this page http://www.robcaz.net/our_backyard.htm

Has anyone been during September? Hoping the weather is warm and fine...
Re: Flinders Ranges
Thanks all and Happy New Year.. Haven't been online for quite a while. Thanks for the replies and will certainly factor in the potential for rain and cool nights.
I have already purchased a copy of Ron and Viv Moons Flinders Ranges Adventure Guide.
Really excited to be planning this trip, which will be our first big trip in the trailer!
Cheers all,

Hi Muddy,
If you have the time you might also like to coincide your trip with the CamperTrailers week long get together in the Gawler Ranges. Details can be found at http://www.campertrailers.org/gawler_ranges_week.htm
You can also save a fair bit in national park entry & camping fees with a park pass http://www.environment.sa.gov.au/parks/ ... _Park_Pass

G'day Rob & Carol.
Unfortunately our timings won't allow us to attend the week long Camper Trailers get together, but hope it is a fun time for those who can make it. You newver know though we may pass on the tracks!
Parks pass will be investigated as it sounds a great option for savings.
Cheers,
Muddy

Re: Flinders Ranges
The Flinders Ranges extends over several hundred k's so the weather can vary a good deal. It can get down to freezing in winter at Blinman as that has some altitude. Also good coffee!
You can get average monthly max & min at Places on www.exploroz.com
Have fun on your trip.

Minus two in the van in Arkaroola, thanks for a good doona. You can go back several times and it is always good. The first time we went in that direction we had the dog with bus so N.P.'s were out of the question. Did it later again when she had passed away. A third time when we went up to Oodnadatta, Dalhousie Springs and kept going. But I have a soft spot for The Flinders Rangers. Beautifull country.
